| ANNOUNCEMENT: ON-GOING BANNER DISCUSSION WITH TGN/ |
(Apr 3, 2008) By the NC Please feel free to share with USGenWeb Project Lists. - - - The following question has been received from a project member. It is an excellent question. The Advisory Board sent the following to David Graham yesterday addressing it. We have yet to receive a response. We will keep you updated when a response is received. Question: "Now that the national pages have moved off Rootsweb, will the agreement made between the AB and TGN/Rootsweb regarding banners for USGenWeb sites still be honored by TGN/Rootsweb?" From: "Tina S. Vickery" <tsvickery@gmail.com> To: "David Graham" Subject: Re: USGenWeb national pages Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2008 19:52:23 -0400 Dear David, While the need to communicate to those Project members who remain with RootsWeb is probably best handled through contact with the National Coordinator, the Advisory Board cannot make a unilateral decision about which banner to accept for those sites. You might decide to let there be three options; the standard banner, or one of the two you have presented. Or, you might decide to offer only one of the two optional banners. The Advisory Board would like to see both custom banners available as options as tastes vary and the individual site account holders should be the ones to make the choice. (Apr 8, 2008) By the NC Update: Forwarded as requested. Please share as appropriate with Project lists. - - - Tina, Would you communicate to coordinators of USGenWeb pages hosted on RootsWeb that we will be including the planned mastheads later than the mid-April date previously communicated? I hope to be able to get a specific plan and timeline for you to distribute by the end of the week. I just wanted to reassure everyone that we would not be making the changes until we communicate this timeline. Thanks, David Graham |

| USGenWeb ARCHIVES MOVED |
(Apr 10, 2008) by Cyndie Enfinger The USGenWeb Archives has officially moved. Here is the new link for the main Table of Contents: http://usgwarchives.net/ Please update any links that you have to the new location. Here are some tips to help: If you have direct links to the data/text files, you should be able to do a find http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb or ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb and replace it with http://files.usgwarchives.net For links to the html pages or images, you can find http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb and replace with http://usgwarchives.net There will be a new custom search engine in the near future which is under development. The Daily Uploads list messages will now contain links to the new location, but the list itself will not change. The files on Rootsweb will be removed by the File Managers at some point in time. If you have questions about file removals for your particular county or state, please coordinate with the appropriate File Manager. |

Term ending 31 December 2008. (Apr 15, 2008) By the NC If the Advisory board has no discussion or objection, the proposed slate will stand confirmed April 18, 2007 12pm EST. (Apr 16, 2008) Point of Order by Bettie Wood I rise to the point of order I realize that one of the volunteers is deceased, but the motion does not include the full slate of volunteers that was originally submitted to us. As stated on the Discuss list (by Jeff Scism), the process is well established. Also, I believe the precedent has been set that we vote on these motions. (Apr 16, 2008) By the NC The chair has reviewed the facts and the point of order is not well taken. The EC amended the submission by notice to the AB prior to the motion. | CONCERNS ABOUT WEB SITES |
(Apr 18, 2008) By Linda Blum-Barton Madame NC & USGW Advisory Board members, In March when we were discussing and voting on the motion made to move the national webpages, I asked several questions about what websites/webspace were going to be moved. It was my understanding at the time that the brochures webspace would move along with space provided the Grievance Committee. (See full text - http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/BOARD/2008-04/1208555041) (Apr 18, 2008) By the NC Accounts for the EC sites hosted on RW, the Publicity account and the Grievance account are in the process of being moved to accounts within usgenweb.org domain. It is not accomplished yet. The EC will move their portion and Linda Lewis will move the Publicity and grievance accounts. |

| GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE SLATE MOTION 2007/08-08 |
(Apr 20, 2008) By the NC It has come to the USGenWeb Project Advisory Board's attention that the Grievance Committee is without a Grievance Coordinator. The individual who had served as Grievance Coordinator has moved into an arbitrator position. I am asking Sharon Craig as previous Grievance Coordinator to facilitate the election of a Grievance Committee Coordinator and to notify the Advisory Board when the selection is made. The request from the committee to seat new committee members will not be considered until the Grievance Committee has seated a Grievance Coordinator. This should be completed no later than April 28, 2008. http://usgenweb.org/volunteers/standard-rules.shtml#section5 (Apr 27, 2008) By Linda Blum Barton, 2nd by Greta Thompson (Apr 29, 2008) Challenge by Phyllis Rippee A challenge to the AB's authority to accept or reject a slate of candidates has been made. The authority comes from the Grievance Committee's procedural rules. Quote: "Future vacancies within the Grievance Committee will be filled by USGenWeb Project members in the following manner: The Grievance Coordinator will solicit volunteers for the position, and post their qualifications for comment. Volunteers will be chosen by a vote of Grievance Committee members, and presented to the Advisory Board for approval." From the votes already cast, it appears that the AB does not approve of this slate. Results of vote will be announced by the NC. (Apr 29, 2008) By Scott Burrow I believe the one making the challenge is misreading the process, Phyllis. The Grievance Committee Procedures state, "The Advisory Board will appoint the initial members of the Grievance Committee. Thereafter, the Grievance Committee will recommend for approval by the Advisory Board a slate of members to fill vacant positions."
