MOTION 07-11: COUNTY/LOCAL COORDINATOR FACILITATOR COMMITTEE

(May 27, 2007) By Mike Peterson, seconded by Greta Thompson

"I move the Advisory Board establish a County/Local Coordinator Facilitator Committee operating under these guidelines/rules:

1] The purpose of the committee is to establish a website, or USGW sub-website, whose sole function is to help coordinators in their efforts as volunteers in coordinating and publishing local genealogical research, research efforts and resources.

2] The website will contain specialties such as guidelines, tips, and aids in the establishment, development, and maintenance of web site pages, query systems, search utilities, etc. It will also include assistance areas such as recruiting volunteers in transcribing, lookups, etc.; helps in developing working relationships with local genealogical/historical societies; interaction with other coordinators; understanding and involvement in other research areas, ie., mailing lists; links to election rules, bylaws, standard rules; and so on. The committee will include the USGW Help Pages (in any format) and publish sound/proven conclusions on the website. The committee will provide one-on-one help/counseling to those coordinators struggling to get started in their volunteer efforts.

3] The committee will be established as a Special Committee then with any subsequent historical success converted to a USGW Standard Committee in accordance with the current USGenWeb bylaws/rules.

4] The committee will be comprised of nine county/local members who do not hold a state, regional, or national USGW office. Achieving a state, regional, or national USGW office while a committee member results in resignation/removal from committee.

5] The Advisory Board will recruit and select initial and subsequent committee members.

6] The committee will elect it's own chair and other leaders.

7] The committee will submit a report of tasks, accomplishments, and plans to the Advisory Board every three months.

MOTION 07-12: FACT FINDING GROUP

(Jun 10, 2007) By Mike Peterson, seconded by Linda Blum-Barton

I move the Advisory Board establish a special fact finding study group which would:

1] Review and document current financial laws relative to non-profit

organizations such as USGenWeb. For example, incorporation registration, unincorporated non-profit registration, 501(c)3 status, status quo and so on and what each would mean to this organization as possible effects/non-effects of possible needed future funding.

2] Develop a list of possible financial paths USGenWeb could pursue, or not, with potential advantages and disadvantages.

3] Provide a report to the Advisory Board (without recommendations) of findings.

4] The group will have five members who have demonstrated experience in organizational financial management.

5] The Advisory Board will recruit and select initial and subsequent group members.

6] The group will structure itself and the group leadership and assignments.

7] The group will provide reports of tasks, accomplishments, and plans to the Advisory Board every month.

MEDIATORS

GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

(Jun 23, 2007) By the NC

***PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL PROJECT LISTS***

June 19, 2007

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AS MEDIATORS

From: Bob Sweeney, Chairman - Grievance Committee

USGENWEB Project

The Grievance Committee of USGENWEB hereby formally requests candidates for the position of Mediator. Candidates should have past experience in their personal or professional lives that reflects the following attributes:

(1) An even disposition

(2) Reliability and timeliness

(3) An ability to suspend judgment and distance themselves from their own views in order to hear other points of view

(4) An ability and willingness to propose solutions that are fair, equitable and consistent with the policies and philosophy of the Project

(5) Good basic communication [writing by e-mail] skills and an ability to compromise and get along with others.

Interested individuals should send the following information to Bob Sweeney, Chairman, Grievance Committee at bobs@chall.com, with the phrase "Mediator Candidate" in the subject line. Bob will then forward the submitted material in confidence to the other Committee members for review and selection. The necessary information is:

(1) Your name

(2) Your e-mail address

(3) Your current position(s) in the USGENWEB Project or an affiliated Special Project--you must be a Member

(4) A brief statement of why you believe you would be qualified for this volunteer position.

If selected, a Mediator will be asked to help arbitrate disputes, listen to evidence and arguments from the disputing parties, develop and propose solutions, and provide a logical rationale for their proposals. Training and guidance from the Grievance Committee members will be provided. The Committee will be reasonable in its requests and time expectations of appointed Mediators.

Note: Sheryl Farrell, at-large member and former Chairman of this Committee, recently resigned from the Committee due to time constraints with her employment. Under the procedures of the committee, I have been elected as the new Chairman and will endeavor to do my best to make the Committee effective. As a result, we are also requesting candidates for the at-large vacancy on this Committee. Notice will be forthcoming.

Bob Sweeney

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

REPRESENTATIVE AT LARGE

GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

(Jun 23, 2007) By the NC

******PLEASE POST TO ALL PROJECT LISTS******

June 20, 2007

USGENWEB GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

From: Bob Sweeney, Chairman

Re: Vacancy on Grievance Committee

Recently, Sharyl Ferrell, the At-Large Representative to the Grievance Committee and Committee Chairman, resigned due to demands on her time. Under the formal procedures of USGENWEB and the Committee, the remaining members elected me Chairman. I am now, at their behest, seeking candidates to fill this At-Large position.

To be eligible, you must be a member of the USGENWEB Project or any Special Project with at least one year's experience. If selected, your membership on this Committee will be for two years. The primary responsibility of the Committee is to identify, select, train and supervise mediators to settle grievance disputes. That is, the committee members will not mediate disputes themselves, but will select and manage those who do. A member should have an even disposition, an ability to listen to both sides of an argument, and a willingness to recommend solutions and instruct others.

Interested parties should communicate directly to me at my e-mail address below, with their name, contact e-mail and a paragraph with their background. I will present any such candidate [more than one if we have more than one interested] to the Committee for consideration and selection. We would think this is a fast-track process and certainly want and need to have it resolved in the next week or so.

Sincerely,

Bob Sweeney

Chairman
